This month's film: The Age of Stupid (2009)
The new four-year epic from McLibel director Franny Armstrong. Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite stars as a man living alone in the devastated world of 2055, looking at old footage from 2008 and asking, Why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?
(89 mins.)

On September 21 and 22, on the eve of the UN General Assembly's climate session,
The Age of Stupid had a global premiere billed as the "biggest and greenest live film event ever": 700 screenings in 50+ countries.

Stephen Johnson, a Greenpeace lead activist, will be on hand for discussion. He organized a screening at our Kingston space as part of the 350.org International Day of Climate Action, Oct. 24. Roughly 60 people attended.

Each month at this intimate, informal gathering at the hive, we show a film with a message — sometimes entertaining, sometimes political, always inspiring, engaging and thought provoking.

We start the evening with a kind of bring-your-own happy hour and then screen the film around 7pm. We'll have healthy, organic popcorn. Please bring something to drink and other food to share if you like.

6 MONTHS...

We've reached a milestone: six months since we opened. Time to check in with all y'all to see how we can make the next six even better.

Please share your thoughts on our events and programs in a brief survey — should take just a couple minutes. (Note to our Kingston friends: This is different, and shorter, than the intro one you may have already taken.)

KINGSTON ORIENTATION & INTRO
Maybe you've seen the ad in this month's Chronogram? We're having a little soirée to introduce our Kingston space and all things BEAHIVE on Monday, Nov. 9 (info). Meet Scott from BEAHIVE and Jason and Amara from Chronogram. It'll be catered. RSVP on Meetup or email Scott if you're planning to come.

EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
Curious how to finance your business and where to find funds? Hear two perspectives at our Financing Your Business seminar in Beacon (Nov. 18): a Morgan Stanley Smith Barney financial advisor with entrepreneurial and nonprofit experience (John Garesché); and a loan officer from the Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union (Barry Sutton). Learn the importance of relationships, consistency and having a good business plan for your business. (Note: freelancing is a business.)

Food, Inc.Also note this month's special OPEN HIVE / film (Nov. 12). We're screening Food, Inc. and hosting a local foods tasting with member Anne Dailey's Hudson Valley Real Food, a buying group and resource for local, sustainable food.

And a reminder that the BEAHIVE+BCN Holiday Party is Dec. 12 (Second Saturday). Seriously, save the date. You'll want to come.
