trump to bush: 'you're fired'
TrueMajority/ACTION just sent around an email about this hilarious spoof made by one its members: The Apprentice: Guest Starring George W. Bush. It's a short film -- better with broadband, volume on.
(fortunate) tears for tibet
The tears from heaven were tears for Tibet. The rain didn't dampen the media turnout or the crowd's enthusiasm at the press conference-cum-media opportunity yesterday with Richard Gere and Ambassador Sichan Siv, US Ambassdor to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission, who all gathered to express support for the three Tibetan hunger strikers in front of the UN.
It was a moving and, for some, highly emotional day. Some cried, as their tears joined the heaven's. The Ambassador remarked that in his native Cambodia, rain is considered a sign of good fortune. Let's hope so.
More than 30 different media outlets, including CNN, Reuters TV, AP TV, The New York Times, Agence France Presse, New York Post, and Daily News, joined 150 or so supporters. The Tibetan Youth Congress posted a fairy detailed account, including verbatim remarks from both Gere and Siv.

news napster
Here's a promising development in the cause of media democracy, as reported by BBC News: "File-Sharing to Bypass Censorship."
"By the year 2010, file-sharers could be swapping news rather than music, eliminating censorship of any kind.
"This is the view of the man who helped kickstart the concept of peer-to-peer (P2P) file-sharing, Cambridge University's Professor Ross Anderson.
"In his vision, people around the world would post stories via anonymous P2P services like those used to swap songs.
"They would cover issues currently ignored by the major news services, said Prof Anderson."

power to the (young) people
Yo, stupid white men: The youth are overthrowing you. Peace out.
So says How to Get Stupid White Men Out of Office: The Anti-Politics, Unboring Guide to Power, a new book released by Brooklyn's Soft Skull Press.
It "documents 20 success stories from the past five years of young people who have swung or won elections — from city councils to the Senate — in 16 states, South Korea, and on the Internet."
One of those stories is of a "25-year-old [Green] mayor in New Paltz, NY." My Sherlock intuition says they're referring to Jason West, who was profiled in a truly inspiring story in the March 28 New York Times Magazine (unfortunately it's now archived on the Times site and available only for purchase).
Those in the NY metro area, there's a book release party this Monday:
